By using kitchen scraps we can ensure healthy growth of our plants, which will be added as organic fertilizer to the soil.

We can easily get organic fertilizers from different types of fruits and vegetables peels, egg shells, used tea bags or powdered tea. You don't even need to spend a lot of time converting these things into fertilizer or using them. However, diseased plants or fleshy matter waste cannot be used for making compost. Because diseases can spread from them.

These kitchen wastes can be converted into a nutritious organic fertilizer, which can be applied to the soil to enhance the growth of vegetables or flowers. If the organic fertilizers produced from the above non-essential materials are used consistently, the phosphate, potassium and calcium of the soil will increase at a significant rate, which will ultimately help in the proper growth of our beloved plants and the fruiting of the trees. Below is a brief description of this.

Used Tea Bag / Tea Leaves :

Fresh or used tea leaves contain tannic acid (tannin), which adds to the soil and increases nitrogen levels in the soil and creates a fertile environment for plants. Due to the presence of natural organic matter in tea leaves, it increases the level of nutrients required by plants and also improves soil quality. This attracts earthworms and other beneficial microorganisms and increases their activity level.

Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and development. Although nitrogen is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, nitrogen deficiency is probably the most common problem affecting plants worldwide. Nitrogen from the atmosphere and the earth's crust is not directly available to plants. Most importantly, nitrogen deficiency in plants disrupts chlorophyll production and inhibits plant food preparation. Adding nitrogen to the soil through organic fertilizers is also safer for the environment than chemical fertilizers.

Correct usage rules :

After using the tea bag or tea leaves, wash them thoroughly in cold water and separate them from other ingredients (ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, etc. if any). Then dry it in shade and store it. You can use these dry tea leaves even at the base of the plant or mix equal amounts of tea leaves, dry egg shell powder and banana peel powder and use it once a month. You can mix them in the ratio of 2:1:2 and use them at the base of the tree before picking flowers or flowers. Before planting them in the ground, loosen the soil as needed and after adding fertilizer, water the roots of the plants.

Eggshell :

Eggshell is made up of more than 95% minerals. Mainly calcium carbonate (37%), which is essential for plant growth. Eggshells are also rich in phosphorus. Phosphorus adversely affects fruit and flowering plants. Phosphorus is essential for root and stem growth. It is very important in pollination and seed germination. Phosphorus helps plants produce abundant flowers and fruits. Eggshells also contain magnesium, potassium and iron.

Correct usage rules :

After keeping the eggshells for a few days, first wash them well and dry them in the sun. Then they can be ground to powder and stored for some time. Then it will be possible to use them as the plant needs.

Banana Peel :

Banana peels contain about 42 percent potassium. Potassium - has a direct effect on plant growth. Increases plant immunity to fight against harmful insects. Helps in fruit development. A plant regulates about 50 different enzymes.

Potassium protects plants when the weather is cold or dry. Apart from potassium, banana peels are also rich in calcium and manganese. Banana peels can be a great fertilizer for fruit plants like tomatoes and peppers in general.

Correct usage rules :

1. Cut the banana peel into pieces and soak it in water for 3-4 days. Then apply that water to the base of your plants.

2. If you want to use all parts of the banana peel, cut the banana peels. Dry the cut pieces in the oven or in the sun. Then use them at the base of the tree. This will increase the water holding capacity of the soil along with the necessary elements.

Onion Peel :

Use it to make a potassium-rich fertilizer for almost all types of plants. Its use will increase the immunity of the plant, strengthen the stem and increase the production capacity. Onion peel fertilizer is rich in calcium, iron, magnesium and copper.

Correct usage rules :

Take 100 grams of onion peel and soak it in 1 liter of water for 3/4 days. If the water is colored and thick, separate the water from the peel. Use this water fertilizer on plants 3/4 times a month.

Orange Peel :

Orange peels contain a chemical called D-limonene that can be used as a natural pesticide. It damages the nervous system of insects like aphids and ants, killing them. You can apply bark or spray around plants with insect problems.

Correct usage rules :

Boil a few orange peels in water for ten minutes. When cool, separate the water into a spray bottle and spray your plants once a week.

Most people use chemical fertilizers on the land. Although chemical fertilizers cause rapid growth of crops, they cause serious damage to the soil and the environment. But with a little effort, you can make organic fertilizer from household fruits and vegetables and almost all kinds of leftovers. By doing this, without spending money, the necessary elements for plants can be obtained, which will increase the fertility of the soil, and even protect the environment from damage.
